Coals coffee table

Shou Sugi Ban is the name of the traditional Japanese technique of protecting wood against the elements, insects and fungi by burning it on the surface. The method has proved very effective for centuries and extends the life of the wood. The result is astonishing: the wood gets a pitch black, bobbly, cracked surface and looks almost shiny. After burning, any loose pieces and fibres are cleaned away. The resulting new surface is preserved by treating it with oil.

Coals coffee table
Traditionally Shou Sugi Ban wood was meant for outdoor use. But we’ve brought it indoors! This round coffee table features a completely black wood surface, only punctuated by metal feet. The result looks beautiful and bold at the same time.
